Wade and Carolyn Pope
Wade Pope was born August 10, 1939 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. He was baptized into Christ by Earl Sims in September of 1955. Under the leadership of Earl Sims and Tom Friskney Wade accpeted the challenge to enter the ministry. Wade entered the Cincinnati Bible Seminary in 1957 and graduated in 1962. During his seminary education he had student ministries in Kentucky and Ohio. During his senior year in school he ministered to the church in Stanton, Kentucky. He continued there for two years after graduation. Following this period Wade spent two years with the church in Allen Park, Michigan. Since June of 1966 he has ministered to the Capital City Church of Christ, Raleigh, North Carolina. Wade will conclude this ministry in November of 1967 to raise support for the work in Brazil.
Wade and Carolyn married in 1958. They have three children -- Miriam Lynn born in Maysville, Kentucky on November 21st, 1959, James Wade born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on November 24th, 1962, and Leah Gwyn born on November 29th, 1963. The Pope's home church is the Hamersville, Ohio Church of Christ. It was here that Wade was ordained to the ministry May 27, 1962.
During a missionary rally in Detroit in April of 1966, Wade was challenged by Bill Loft to come to the Brazilian mission field. They prayed that God would direct them as to when to make the announcement to go. Wade and Carolyn belive that this statement of their future plans is His answer.
The Wade's spent three years in Brazil from July 1968 through the end of 1970. Their mission trip was cut short by Wade father unexpected passing and Carolyn's illness. Brother pope accepted a call to serve the church at Stanton, Kentucky.
